IOportal update: VSP One Block High End Support

Six months after the last update, IOportal gains full support for Hitachi's newest high end platform and brings two of its daily reports out of the inbox and into the portal.

Full support for the VSP One Block High End

IOportal now supports the VSP One Block High End end to end, from data collection through to the portal. The performance metric catalogue for the platform has been substantially extended and follows the current Hitachi Export Tool 2 specification, so the front end, the back end, the volumes and the processors of these arrays are covered to the same depth as on the platforms you already monitor.

The new interconnect resources AccessPath, HIE-ISW and Accelerator are collected, processed and shown as graphs, and NVMe drive types are recognised. Mainframe target port performance is now processed from Export Tool 2 data as well. Since these arrays deliver Export Tool 2 exclusively, mainframe workload on a Block High End is covered in the same way as on the older platforms.

Daily reports, now on screen

The Daily Status Overview and the Daily Port Performance Report can now be opened directly in the portal. Until now they existed only as an email. Select any date, review the report on screen and export it as a PDF. Both reports were extended with additional statistics.

They continue to be delivered by email exactly as before, and existing subscriptions were transferred automatically. The Daily Status Overview replaces the former Server5ms report, and the Daily Port Performance Report replaces the former port report.

Resource utilisation at a glance

A new Resource Utilisation card on the storage array detail page charts processor, parity group and cache write pending rate together over the last three months. It makes the development of average utilisation easy to read, and a gradual increase visible long before it turns into a threshold excess. The chart can be zoomed and shares its crosshair with the other charts on the page, so a change can be compared directly against the other KPIs of the array.

Reports without the wait

PDF generation has moved into the background. The portal no longer blocks while a large performance or capacity report is produced, and a notification with a download link appears as soon as the file is ready.

• A new MF/CU clusters capacity report, with control MP figures added to the cluster and volume reports.
• Erroneous measurements with negative response times, which arrive occasionally from virtualised LDEVs together with implausible IOPS values, are now discarded instead of distorting average response times and Top 10 rankings.
• Port imbalance alerts no longer report false criticals when a port pair is incomplete.
• reCAPTCHA protection on the login and password reset forms.
• Various fixes and refinements across the dashboard, the graphics and the reports.
